Got some great news yesterday: Bruce Holland Rogers bought my story "New Song of Old Earth" for the Bones of the World anthology! It was great fun to go through the other names in the table of contents. I don't know any of them personally. Several were familiar from their work. Others I spent some time tracking down web pages. It was fun. I need to sell things more often.
Nothing like making a sale to get me back to the keyboard. I put in a couple hours this afternoon while Jackie was at a class and my mom was napping. I'm starting over with the island village story, trying to change the circumstance of the hero to sharpen up the nature of his problem. I think I'll also give him a girlfriend, which will also serve to highlight the other problems of his situation, as well as give him someone to talk to so that I can use dialog to work though some things. I'm still struggling with this one, but I'm sticking with it because I like the setting so much.
Now, though, I going to go spend some time with my family.
