I'm bored and frustrated at my day job. I've even got a fairly interesting assignment, I just don't want to do it. I think I've decided that the problem is that it's been too long since I had a vacation. For so long after Clarion I had so little vacation time, I'd just gotten into the habit of hoarding it. I actually have a good bit now, and I really need to take some.
I finally made some nice progress on the virus story. It's at 1380 words.
I noticed a while ago that my most successful stories (and all my sales so far) are first-person stories. I think the reason is that I do a better job showing the thoughts of the viewpoint character in first person. But a tight third-person POV works fine for showing the character's thoughts too, you just have to show them. So, with that in mind, I've gone over the first few pages of this story several times, adding the hero's thoughts about things. There's still more to do. I'm not sure why I struggle with this so much.
I've been getting in my runs and my workouts, three of each in the past week. That's just about perfect.
