It was chilly and rainy today, more like early March than late May. It was a good day to stay in (although we did get out to the Farmers Market).
Steve sent back comments on my outline. What he said was that the hero didn't really solve his problem. I don't see it that way, but Steve still has a point. The structure of the story was such as to mislead the reader as to what the "main" problem of the story is. There was a "secondary" problem that was solved rather easily once the main problem was solved. That's unsatisfying (and doubly so if you think it's the main problem).
I basically threw out the whole structure. I've switched main characters and given the hero a definite problem that he needs to solve. I get to keep several of the scenes I really like, but the whole wrapper story with the secondary problem is gone. My new outline needs some work, but I'm happier with it.
